Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School, Mt Ridley

One of Melbourne’s newest Catholic Primary Schools, Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School, Mt Ridley, is to open its doors in 2009. Fr Peter Hansen, parish priest of Our Lady’s Parish Craigieburn, has appointed Mr Christopher Reed as the founding principal. Mr Reed has over twenty years experience in education with the past seven as Principal at St Mark’s Fawkner.

Mr Reed looks forward with excitement to the challenges of establishing this new school. Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School will be a wonderful opportunity to develop a learning community of the 21st Century. “Its open plan with Learning Studios flowing onto a Learning Street provides the physical environment for personalised learning preparing children for a future of life long learning,” Mr Reed said. The key competencies of literacy and numeracy, as well as a knowledge and understanding of our ever-changing world remain essential. It is our vision to develop a modern, contemporary and

innovative approach to learning. Learning that is purposeful and relevant to the lives of children and families today.

Mr Reed believes the fact that the school bears the name of one of the world’s most well known religious persons of our time, Blessed Mother Teresa, challenges the community to put their faith into action just as Mother Teresa did. In today’s multicultural and multifaith society we are called to be compassionate and understanding, extending assistance to all. It is a challenge for us to develop a vibrant learning community that displays this learning through authentic actions within the school and the wider community. We must be, as Mother Teresa was, a visible presence of the person of Christ in the world reaching out to others.

Mother Teresa School is now open for enrolments Years P – 6 and will open its doors in January 2009. For further information contact Mr Reed at the school on 9333 0814.
