Just two years ago the proposed site
of Marymede Catholic College, South
Morang was little more than an open
grassy paddock and a dream driven by
the need to provide Catholic education
for students from Prep through to Year
12 in Melbourne’s rapidly expanding
northern suburbs. Visit the same
site today and you will witness a
transformation! CDF is pleased to help
make dreams come true.
Stage 1 facilities were completed in
2006 in readiness for the first trail blazing
students. Stage 2 will be ready for the
start of the 2007 school year. Plans are in
place for 5 more stages of development.
There is a real sense of new beginnings
|
and excitement for future promise at
Marymede where construction sounds
are constant and mix with the sounds of
sheep and cattle in the distance.
Paul Herrick, Principal, spoke with
enthusiasm for Marymede, “Eventually
3 separate campuses all joined to core
facilities are envisaged to serve Junior
(Prep – Grade 4), Middle (Grades 5 – 8),
and Senior (Years 9 – 12) students. A dean
will oversee each satellite school. Student
numbers have grown from zero to 500 in
the space of a year!”
The name Marymede, a seemingly curious
choice, is full of symbolism. The college
is dedicated to the Blessed Mother and
|
“mede” stands for courage, strength and
the open grassy paddock. Adding to the
symbolism, there is a fresh water spring
on campus – a sign of the richness of
Mary’s meadow where young people are
nurtured and encouraged to grow in the
way of Mary.
