In a world of change, it’s nice to know some things don’t
Encouraged by her father, Ann Shepherdson started saving two
shilling coins while she was a student at Our Lady of Mercy College,
Heidelberg in 1960. At the same time Ann’s parish, St John’s,
Heidelberg, was actively promoting support of the newly
established Schools Provident Fund.
“I opened a Treasure Chest savings account with SPF”, Ann said.
“As the two shilling coins mounted up, I’d cash them in to make
a deposit!”
The years which followed brought many changes. Shillings were
replaced with decimal currency; the Schools Provident Fund
became the Catholic Development Fund; Ann’s now and again
deposits were upgraded to regular salary deductions. Ann
converted her Treasure Chest account to a Cash Management
account and a Term Investment. She advanced in her career. The
hardworking primary school teacher became a principal.
The one thing which never changed was the support of the Fund for
Catholic education.
Ann added, “As a Catholic primary school principal, I have been
involved in five major building projects, all of which have been
made possible by CDF loans. I regularly encourage school parents
and students to put some of their savings with the Catholic
Development Fund because over the years I have seen the worth of
the Fund first hand. CDF really makes a difference!”
